In 1998, Mr. Attilio Leardini founded Leardini Pescados; in its first year of operation, the company used to sell only fresh fish to fishmongers, small wholesalers and informal fish sellers in the Itajaí region.
Currently the company has its own fleet of refrigerated fishing boats, own trucks and an industrial structure that assure the international quality standards of Leardini’s products.

During its 20 years of history, Leardini has become one of the largest fish suppliers in Brazil and currently exports to several countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

HISTORY

1988 Marketing fresh fish.
1990 It started a moralization process of the fresh fish unloading system, providing more safety to the boats unloading in the region which were frequently robbed. With this initiative, Leardini became the largest fish warehouse in the region.
1995 Began industrialization of frozen fish and launched the Leardini brand in the Brazilian market.
1996 It was the first fishing company to make direct sales to supermarkets, bringing more accessible prices to consumers.
1997 With the polyester, nylon and polyethylene packages, it brought innovation to the frozen fish market of Brazil. From that moment, the Brazilian consumer was granted with a quality product in a safe package, with colored prints and images that were very innovative at the time.
1998 It installed its industrial plant in Navegantes, which was considered the most modern facility in the region.
1999 It implemented its quality assurance program based on the HACCP – Hazard Analysis end Critical Control Point standards. This program is approved by ISO 9001 as the best and most indicated one for the food-production segment, qualifying the company to export its products. In the same year, Leardini entered the international market and the first exported product was the Scampi (a very common crustacean species of the Brazilian coast).
2000 It acquired fishing boats with the purpose of improving the quality of the captured raw material, and in the same year, it started fishing the monkfish, becaming one of the largest exporters of this species in the country.
2001 Concerned with the satisfaction of its customers, and searching for new consumption alternatives, it launched the first fish-based industrialized product line in Brazil (breaded food and hamburgers).
2002 It was a pioneer in using trawler boats and capture calamar squid in Brazil, a species fished only in Argentina.
2002 It began the export of vannamei shrimp produced in Santa Catarina and consolidated itself as one of the largest seafood industries in the country.
2003 It was the first Brazilian industry to export farm raised catfish and pioneered exports of tilapia harvested in SC.
2004 It pioneered the implementation of an integrated information system in its business field.
2005 It implemented the Leardini Organizational Management model (Gol model), in which decisions are made by a team aiming at excellent management and valuation of the human being.
2006 It invested in automation of the packaging line operation.
2007 Expansion of refrigeration tunnels and inclusion of some Amazon fish species in the product mix.

STRUCTURE

With approximately 9,000 square meters of industrial space, the company has a production capacity of 24,000 tons/year and storage capacity of 36,000 tons/year.

FLEET
1) Boats
Another important highlight is the acquisition of an own fishing boats fleet for quality assurance of the captured raw material. This fleet is composed of 8 own boats and 60 third-party boats, which can unload over 30,000 tons/year.
The company has refrigerated boats with state-of-the-art technology for freezing fish when caught, allowing maintenance of a high level of freshness.
2) Trucks
The road fleet is composed of 15 own trucks and 15 third-party ones, with excellent performance in transportation of frozen products, which represents a great differential between fishing companies.

UNLOADING
One of the few Brazilian companies to have an indoor platform structure whose privileged condition allows the simultaneous docking of several ships and ensures the quality of the end-product.
After selection, fish are immediately processed and shrimps are mechanically peeled. The production room is acclimatized and all water used is chlorinated, favoring sanitary control.


FREEZING

Continuous freezing and packaging automation allow the product to be exposed to cold for a shorter time without glaze protection, thus preserving the nutritional properties of the fish catch.


ASSURED QUALITY
Leardini implemented the quality assurance program based on the HACCP – Hazard Analysis end Critical Control Point standards. This program is approved by ISO 9001 as the best and most indicated one for the food-production segment.

Furthermore, qualified technicians control the production, packaging, stock, expedition, shelf-life and batch operations, providing the products with reliable traceability. In order to store over 3,000 tons of frozen fish with assured quality, the company uses last generation compressor machines with self-regulating temperature controllers.
All raw material is analyzed in its own laboratory, where samples of each supplier are collected upon entry.


HUMAN RESOURCES

Leardini is a pioneer company in the search for better work conditions. The company employs specialist teams (doctors, engineers, technicians, nursing assistants) in the performance of work safety and health management activities, thus offering a comfortable and safe workplace.



ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSABILITY

All liquid effluents generated during reception and processing of raw material are directed to the Effluent Treatment Station (ETE).
